CUPS Printing

12 Apr

Had to install CUPS – download PPD file for the correct printer.
Use the http://localhost:631 configuration tool.

For samba sharing, i needed to add the following to smb.conf (notice the print command – i needed to ensure it would print it raw. Also note the ‘use client driver = yes’ – without this i was getting ‘unable to access’ errors on the Windows XP client).

# if you want to automatically load your printer list rather
# than setting them up individually then you’ll need this
printcap name = /etc/printcap
load printers = yes

[printers]
comment = All Printers
path = /var/spool/samba
browseable = yes
public = yes
# Set public = yes to allow user ‘guest account’ to print
guest ok = yes
writable = no
printable = yes
use client driver = yes
print command = /usr/bin/lpr -r -P’%p’ -oraw %s
